Sir Paul backs jazz festival

Published on Monday 20 August 2012
SIR Paul McCartney has given the thumbs-up to Rye’s International Jazz Festival and urged people to support the event.
Bass player Herbie Flowers, who performs at the Festival on Sunday August 26, told the Rye Observer; “Sir Paul spoke to me and he was very excited about the Festival. He told me that he hoped people got behind it and that it became an annual event as it would be good for the town.”
Tickets are selling fast for the festival, over the bank holiday weekend, which features performances by Cream drumming legend Ginger Baker, top young pianist Anthony Strong and IDMC Gospel.
A packed line-up of events at venues across the town includes many free concerts at local pubs, a latin jazz band playing in the streets, free acoustic sessions in the Buttermarket and a number of workshops.
Advance tickets are available through the website ww.ryejazz.com, from Grammar School Records, in the High Street or by calling the box office on 01892 277984.
