Saturday 18th August marked the 50th anniversary of The Beatles very first performance in their iconic line up.
History was made when Ringo Starr made his first appearance as The Beatles’ new drummer at Hulme Hall, in the small picturesque village of Port Sunlight.
The event was made extra special with a display of the Magna-Carta of modern-day music, an exact replica of the contract signed by The Beatles and Brian Epstein.
Signed on 1 October 1962, just four days before the release of Love Me Do, it marks the moment when British pop music changed forever.
The original contract was last seen in 2004 when it was auctioned at Christie’s fetching £125, 000. Now worth over £500, 000, the original contract will never be on public display due to its fragility.

The replica contract has been produced by NEMS Enterprises Ltd who have created 10,000 limited edition contracts to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the band’s formation.
It was the beginning of everything on that fateful day in 1962 when The Beatles headlined the local horticultural society’s 17th annual dance at Hulme Hall, coming just two days after Brian Epstein controversially sacked drummer Pete Best.
The next day, they played The Cavern Club for the first time together, and the rest, as they say, is history.
On Wednesday 22nd August, The Beatles performed at The Cavern, with the event being filmed by Granada TV. This iconic recording is the only footage of The Beatles performing at The Cavern Club.
The Cavern Club is set to celebrate these historic occasions with two very special concerts. On 18th August from 7pm at Hulme Hall BBC Radio Merseyside’s Billy Butler, will host an evening of music from The Cavern Club Beatles and The Shakers.
On 19th August will be the 50th Anniversary of the Fab Four’s First Gig at the Cavern and The Cavern Club Beatles will perform a special tribute show in the Cavern Live Lounge from 1pm.
On the 22nd August, The Cavern Club will officially launch International Beatle Week 2012 with The Cavern Club Beatles recreating the moments that Granada captured on 22nd August 1962.
International Beatle Week 2012, 22nd August- 28th August, will celebrate the music of the most famous pop group the world has ever known with bands from over 20 countries and fans from across the globe.
As well as live gigs, there are exhibitions, memorabilia sales, guest speakers, video shows, sightseeing tours and a convention. Festival venues include The Cavern Club and Cavern Pub in Mathew Street, the Adelphi Hotel, Liverpool Cathedral and the Philharmonic Hall.
The contract will continue its tour and go to:
Wednesday 22nd August - The Cavern Club - from 12 Midday and throughout the afternoon
Sunday 26th August - Adelphi Hotel at The Beatles Convention
An exact replica of the contract signed by the Beatles and Brian Epstein signed by Lennon, Harrison & McCartney
